Our annual Ten Tors walk across Bodmin Moor each May is an event used to help other groups to raise money for themselves. We charge a fee for teams of four people to enter, they can then raise money for their own good causes. For this fee the Lions mark and marshal the route across the moor, provide drinking water at points along the route and with the help of Cornwall Search and Rescue provide First aid and evacuation if needed. The event was started in 1981 by Lion Gerald Worden and Alistair Pellow. That first year the route was marked by wooden stakes with cut up plastic bags attached. These were all driven in by hand, quite a hard days work. The event raised just under £2,500. The 2007 walk raised well over £20,000. TEN TORS 2009 UPDATEd 22nd June Yet again we had great weather for our walk on Bodmin moor,
the walk, started on time by Bodmin's Town Crier Nick Prideaux was well
supported & very successful. The first three pictures are just after the start & heading out onto Bodmin Moor the fourth is taking a rest at the top of Garrow Tor with Roughtor & Brown Willy in the background. For more Pictures follow the link Below.
NEW ROUTE FOR 2008 update The
new route was a great success we had at least 50 more walkers than normal, that
along with the very warm weather meant we were all kept on our toes trying to
ensure the walkers had enough water. As predicted the walk was harder but we had
a lot of positive feedback & most people seemed to have enjoyed the day. We
estimate £25,000 was raised for all the many good causes. NEW ROUTE FOR 2008 This
year we are using a new route for our annual Ten Tors walk on Bodmin Moor. The
walk will START & FINISH at ST BREWARD FOOTBALL CLUB. TEN TORS 2007 TEN TORS 2006 The 2006 walk, our 25th, was started by District Governor Lion Dave Rosson. We had very good weather for walking it was dry, not a lot of cloud, and not too hot. Teams signed on and each team member was given an identity number. Over 74 teams entered and we had 258 people actually start the walk, We estimate £20,000 to £25,000 was raised in sponsorship. The highest sponsored team was yet again a team from Laddock who raised £3,600 plus. Several teams raised amounts in the £200 to £1000 region. Being our 25th year we decided to award a special prize, we awarded a prize of two bottles of "Cornwall" (Cornwall's answer to Champagne produced by Camel Valley Wines), to the 25th team of 4 walkers to complete the walk. The winning team were from The Boscastle & Crackington Haven Gig Club.
