Country Fair

This event in July each year is a fund raiser for other organisations.

The Country Fair is set out on the large grass area at the end of Priory Park Car Park with stalls around the edge and entertainment in the centre.

A 7.00am start on a damp Saturday morning didn't deter the stalwarts of the Lions Club of Bodmin. The erection team arrived, as promised, to piece together the refreshment tent, the hub of the days event. The marking out party were off across the field, merrily spraying their yellow numbers, in some semblance of order, in preparation for the stallholders to arrive. Yes, its Country Fair day, a chance for local charities and organisations to raise funds for their own good cause under the umbrella event organised by the club.

A total of 39 stalls spread around the Memorial Lawn, with the arena roped-off for the entertainment that was to follow.  Spot on 10.30am, our local MP, Dan Rogerson, opened the event, full of praise for the Lions Club and all it means to the town, and we were well underway. Tina Roberts and her excellent Firebird International provided the continuity with music for the adults, and childrens entertainment with Chico the mouse and Clive the cat. There were demonstrations by Impact Martial Arts, Funky Feet, Screech Owls, John Hilton & his gorgeous shire horse and the finalists from Cornwall's Got Talent, with fantastic singing that pleased all of the crowd. The sun eventually poked out from behind the clouds and the temperature rose, bringing a welcome relief from the poor summer we've struggled with so far. The crowd grew bigger, hands were thrust into pockets and the stalls were doing a roaring trade. The giant slide and bouncy castle's were constantly busy and the excellent refreshments, provided by the Lions Ladies, were always welcome throughout the day. But like all good things, they must come to an end, so a big thanks to all the members of the committee, the Club and the volunteers who all assisted in making this a great day, and helping to raise approx. £3000 for the local community. Long may this event last.
